Life as an IQN: your first 90 days on the ward

Your first three months as an internationally qualified nurse (IQN) shape how confident and connected you feel for years to come. A little awareness goes a long way.

Expect a learning curve

Documentation systems, medication protocols, and team dynamics will differ from home. This is normal. Ask questions early and often — local colleagues expect it and respect it.

Build your support network

Connect with your preceptor, join IQN groups, and lean on others who have made the same move. Settling socially is as important as settling clinically.

Pace yourself

You are adapting to a new system and a new country at the same time. Be kind to yourself. Our mentorship continues well past placement, so you always have someone to call.
